Panel Carratelli

The interesting research activity that Mauro Carratelli has been doing in the last 20 years led to the development of a series of tests in the area of oxidative stress evaluation, now included in Panel Carratelli. Panel Carratelli is the integrated analytical approach that allows the global assessment of oxidative stress by the use of 13 tests that complete each other. These tests can be divided in two groups, one for the evaluation of the pro-oxidant status and the other for the antioxidant status, and both can be applied to Human, Veterinary and Agri-food sector.

Pro-oxidant status test Antioxidant status test
d-ROMs Test BAP Test
LP CHOLOX Test OXY-Adsorbent Test
MAc Test -SHp Test
URIN-OX Test anti-ROMs Test
LP Sperm Test
Lipotiss
Lipocell
ROSA Test

Some tests are classified for diagnostic use (IVD) and others for research use only (FRUO).

While all the tests of the Panel can be used on standard photometers, some of them can be applied on microplate readers or automatic analysers. As an alternative it's possible to run the assays with the dedicated FREE systems (FREE Carpe Diem and FREE DUO). As for all the products developed by Mauro Carratelli, the focus of the development is the ease of use combined with the reliability of the system.

Pro-oxidant status evaluation

Useful to: provide an indication on general wellness of the organism, identify risks and predisposition to oxidative damage in subjects that are exposed to risk factors or suffering from disease or undergoing treatments.

What evaluates: the free alcohoxil and hydroperoxyl radicals derived from hydroperoxides present in the sample. The acronym d-ROMs stands for derivates of Reactive Oxigen Metabolites.

What Evaluates: the level of lipid peroxides in circulation and, in particular, of oxidised cholesterol

Matrix: Serum or plasma fresh or frozen

Sector of application: Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO: For research use only

Instrumentation: FREE Systems, manual photometers

MAc Test

Useful to: monitor the correct balance between acidity and alkalinity of blood to prevent tissue damage caused by free radicals.

What Evaluates: the metabolic acidity of blood, composed of the set of acid derived by the cellular metabolism (especially carbonic acid, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, uric acid and fatty acids)

LP SPERM Test

Useful to: useful in the treatment of masculine infertility and prostatic inflammatory status

What Evaluates: the peroxidation status of sperm

Matrix: sperm liquid, nemasperm, fresh spermatic plasma

Sector of application: Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO: For research use only

Instrumentation: FREE Systems, manual photometers

LIPOTISS

Useful to: to assess, through tissues, the oxidative state of organisms in which it is not possible to take biological liquids. Mainly used in research laboratories in Ecological and Veterinary field.

What Evaluates: the peroxidation status of tissue

Matrix: fresh or frozen tissue extracts

Sector of application: Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO:
For research use only

Instrumentation:
FREE Systems, manual photometers

Lipocell

Useful to: evaluating the oxidative state in cell line cultures. Mainly used in research laboratories.

What Evaluates: the peroxidation status of cells

Matrix: fresh or frozen cells extracts

Sector of application: Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO: For research use only

Instrumentation: FREE Systems, manual photometers

Rosa Test

Useful to: to suppose an inflammatory condition resulting from a bacterial infection of the oral cavity, pharynx or stomach.

What Evaluates: the presence of nitric oxide (a radical reactive nitrogen species) in saliva

Matrix: saliva

Sector of application: Human

IVD/FRUO: For research use only

Qualitative Test: does not require Instrumentation

Antioxidant status evaluation

BAP Test

Useful to: to evaluate the state of antioxidant defenses and/or the effectiveness of specific antioxidant treatments.

What Evaluates: it allows to measure the chemically active antioxidant capacity (scavengers) of the plasma barrier. In particular it includes antioxidants both of exogenous nature (ascorbic acid and tocopherols) and of endogenous nature (uric acid, bilirubin and albumin).

Matrix: Serum or Heparinized plasma fresh or frozen

Sector of application:
Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO:
In vitro diagnostics

Instrumentation: FREE Systems, manual photometers, multiple analysers, microplate readers

OXY-Adsorbent Test

Useful to: to evaluate the state of antioxidant defenses and/or the effectiveness of specific antioxidant treatments. Very used in the veterinary research field.

What Evaluates: the total antioxidant barrier understood as the whole of the chemically active capacity (scavengers) and the plasmatic structural component such as mucopolysaccharides, amino acids and proteins (shock adsorbers).

Matrix: Serum or plasma fresh or frozen, agri-food extracts

Sector of application: Human, Veterinary and Agri-food

IVD/FRUO: In vitro diagnostics

Instrumentation:
FREE Systems, manual photometers, microplate readers

-SHP Test

Useful to: detecting conditions of lack of thiolic antioxidants and in monitoring the effectiveness of formulations based on active ingredients containing sulfhydryl groups.

What Evaluates: the measurement of thiol groups (lipoic acid, glutathione, cysteine) which represent a qualitatively significant component of the plasma antioxidant barrier since they oppose the propagation phase of the radical processes.

Matrix: Serum or plasma fresh

Sector of application: Human and Veterinary

IVD/FRUO: In vitro diagnostics

Instrumentation: FREE Systems, manual photometers, microplate readers

anti-ROMS Test

Useful to: to evaluate the state of antioxidant defenses and/or the effectiveness of specific antioxidant treatments. It can be used to monitor the effectiveness of food and/or antioxidant formulations.

What Evaluates: the plasma antioxidant barrier in two distinct results: rapid exogenous antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E and slow endogenous antioxidants such as uric acid, thiol groups and polyphenols.

Matrix: Serum or Heparinized plasma fresh

Sector of application: Human, Veterinary and Agri-food

IVD/FRUO: For research use only

Instrumentation: FREE Systems
