Family physicians are increasingly sensitive to vocational training in the field of oxidative stress.
From Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia) a theoretical and practical courses on the subject, sponsored by the major unions in the sector (SNAME, FIMMG, SMI, INTESA SINDACALE).
It was concluded successfully in Monfalcone (Italy) refresher course Free radicals and antioxidants. Pathophysiology, clinical and diagnostic of oxidative stress .
Following well-established standards of the International Observatory of Oxidative Stress, the training event was held by dr. Eugenio Luigi Iorio, president of that institution, and prof. Umberto Cornelli, professor at Loyola University Medical School (Illinois).
“To raise awareness the family physicians to evaluate oxidative stress is now an absolute priority training” - said dr. Iorio – “because the common laboratory tests are not able to highlight how subtle this emerging risk factor associated with early ageing and with over 100 diseases , by atherosclerosis to cancer”.
The family doctor, on suspicion of impaired oxidative balance, which was not even detectable by clinical examination, should be aware that there are now specific biochemical tests, such as those collected in Panel Carratelli, which can be identified accurately and effectively monitor a condition of oxidative stress, a faithful indicator of more serious diseases.
Only through this approach will be possible to realize a true prevention, optimizing specific treatments (eg antihypertensive) and monitor the effectiveness of antioxidant formulas, all too often made without a test able to demonstrate a real need. Not surprisingly, the formative event has been enriched by a practical exercise with a dedicated photometer (FREE Carpe Diem), during which a sample of general practitioners has been submitted to the d-ROMs Test results were also commented in the light of individual clinical situations, according to the guidelines of the International Observatory of Oxidative Stress.
